Grand-old-man of Penang dies

ALFATIHAH.

Founder-member of the United Malays National Organization (UMNO) and former treasurer of the National Malay Chamber of Commerce (Malaya), Datuk Syed Murtadza bin Syed Mahdzar Aidid or better known as Datuk S.M. Aidid, returned to the Mercy of Allah, today at his residence in Gelugor, Penang. He was 105 years old.

Datuk S.M. Aidid is the father of businessman and former president of the Malaysian Amateur Athletics Union (MAAU), former chairman of the Penang Port Commission (PPC) and former leader of the Bukit Bendera UMNO division, Datuk Syed Mohamad Aidid, 59.
