According to a reliable source, former Chief Justice Tun Ahmad Fairuz Sheikh Abdul Halim is to be appointed the next Yang Dipertua Negeri (Governor) of Penang.
As a Penangite, I do think that it is in the interest of the state to do so since his name was linked to alleged brokering of judges' appointments exposed in the Lingam Tape (Lingamgate) scandal.
The Governor is the representative of His Majesty The Yang Di-Pertuan Agong as the Head of State.
Do we need to petition His Majesty not to appoint Tun Ahmad Fairuz as Penang's Head of State?
I was told that there are several prominent Penangites (Tun Ahmad Fairuz is a Kedahan) that can be considered for the ceremonial post such as senior lawyer Tan Sri Khalid Ahmad Sulaiman, Penang Malay Association president Datuk Seri Yusof Latif, retired Court of Appeal Judge Shaikh Daud Ismail and Sports Commissioner Tan Sri Elyas Omar.
