Sebagai anak Penang, kadang-kadang masih ada lagi yang kita tak tau banyak sejarah dengan lebih mendalam esp about nasib melayu Pulau Pinang and other things as well.

Walaupun saya berada jauh jutaan batu dari Pulau Pinang tapi jiwa tetap bersama Pulau Pinang bak kata pepatah orang melayu -tempat jatuh lagi dikenang inikan pula tempat dilahirkan - I know that your are not Melayu Tulin, (hehehehe-we share the same boat but mine its from the west meet east 100 years ago).

Blog you ni sudah tentu akan menjadi satu lagi favorite blog, selain blog-blog by other x journalist or editor, all the x msian journalist yang kesemuanya power-power belaka.

Sebagai anak buah you dekat bernama dulu, walaupun tak sempat bertugas di KL, before you retired, I am so proud to see you back in writting and have your own blog that you can write what ever you want.

Bro Syed,

This could be off-topic but i had to let it out of my mind (meaning share with u lah) after browsing tru the tv channels (rtm in particular) tonite, Saturday, Jan 20/07. And the end of the surf, i have a bad taste in my mouth after yet been fooled again by our information minister that the new news buletins for 2007 on rtm is completely new, refreshing and will be enticing to the public. I for one was not amused by what i saw and my conclusion is that mr zainuddin maidin failed to at least capture my imagination, let alone to be an ardent. In short, RTM (for that matter the minister himself yesterday admitted he took it as a personal satisfaction should the public refers him as Menteri RTM, whatever that means) is still the same SSDD ( that is same shit different day). Sadly the format of the news buletins, the news treatment and the presentation left A BIG room for improvement and if that was the best they could do, then they do not know shit about tv news. This is depressing since the minister was a newsman (he said so) and still regards himself as one and never really a politician. For once, he is right -- he aint no politician but then again after seeing the news buletins i wonder whether he was or is really a newsman? There is one word to sum up my conslusion -- pathetic. And if this is the best they (or he) could do, then God helps RTM la in this case! This is a clear case of they not knowing what to do and how to do it, and because of my close association with Malay folks back home i like to use one of their maxims -- jangan tak buat! Plz correct me if i am wrong here but since news if the only programme that rtm could do to maintain their image, then they failed miserably, time and again. And thats not yet talking about the prime time news buletins, which is the mother of all pathetic! Do you know that rtm hires one ibrahim yahya (former berita harian reporter) with an RM 13,000 salary with a 2-litre car to improve news gatheringa nd presentation as a news (sometimes refered to as media) consultant, just news and news alone and even that rtm news is still far from being what it was before, and that is not even comparing it with the other stations, let alone the standard benchmark which is BBC.

I was told that ibrahim yahya was given a free hand to take rtm news to the top and his two-year contract which expired dec last year will be renewed because "he has not found his touches" to improve rtm news over the last 2 years. Such is the sad and pathetic state of affairs in rtm. The best part is nobody is penalising rtm or the minister, lest the prime minister is unaware of all these.

The appointment of the so-called "consultant" with such a handsome pay is in fact a disgrace to the RTM newsroom. I failed to see any improvement since that appointment. In fact, RTM is not my first choice or source of information (news that is). To be honest, RTM is far behind TV3 and NTV7. It is only ahead of Astro News (part of it from Bernama TV).

RTM must be corporatised and be free from ministerial control. RTM must be placed under a new management comprising prefessionals if the station is to be competitive.
