Now the picture is getting clear, in fact very clear.
This could be the answers to my earlier questions on the appointment of Syed Jamil as "adviser" to Bessar, a Bernama subsidiary and the appointment of Azman Ujang as General Manager (GM) and the awarding of Tokoh Wartawan to Information Minister Zainuddin Maidin, although he does not deserve it, yet..
Little bird told me that they have "hell lot of things" to do or related to the RM13 million worth of office automation project to be implemented in the editorial department. I was told that the cost has sky-rocketed from RM7 million to RM13 million for "kickbacks". RM3m to a certain politician for his constituency's fund and RM1m each to three top executives of ........ No wonder everything is done in such a speed never seen before in Bernama.
The project, mooted by none other than the "great" Syed Jamil, was signed, sealed and delivered in Dubai, yes Dubai, Persian Gulf's capital of entertaintment and shopping. Wow! and wow!
A selective tender was called for the project and five companies invited to bid. Bessar (the subsidiary) is the beneficiary through a "heinous scam" by a certain high-level officer and the subsidiary's chief.
The tender committee received "instructions and orders" from the high-level officer as in the case of a RM1.5m pre-project tender related to the RM13m project where it was awarded to Bessar.
As for the office automation job, Bessar is in the running and most definitely they will get it.
Who was hurriedly appointed as Bessar's adviser? Who announced the appointment? Add two and two and the answer is ....
I am not surprised why the Information Minister Zainuddin Maidin, the Tokoh Wartawan, announced a not so important post in a practically unknown Bernama subsidiary. On the other hand, the most important post in Bernama, that of the General Manager (I am talking about the post and not the personality) was announced by the Chairman, Board of Governors and not the minister? As the Malays would say, pelik tetapi benar!
For the record, Syed Jamil (a fifth former like most of Bernama pioneers), now the adviser, is also a board member of Bessar together with Azman Ujang (another fifth former) and another personality, either the lady boss of Bessar or its executive director. Can the "sour-face" Syed Jamil, without resigning as a board member, be appointed as adviser?
It is not a bad idea to "inform" the Badan Pencegah Rasuah or Anti-Corruption Agency to step in. But...its boss is also in trouble, a well-known fact among top government officials since the days I was with the PM's Department.
So who to trust? Where is the so-called integrity, good governance, transparency, Islam "Hadhari" and what have you ...
My sympathies are to the "poor" majority and loyal staff of Bernama.
I have lots of "stories" to tell, but for now, cukup sampai di sini.
