Recent developments within the United Malays National Organization (UMNO) and among component parties of the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN), raises the question of whether Malaysia is blessed with a united and strong government, headed by Abdullah Badawi.
A strong government (Cabinet) is important for the smooth running of the administration. Likewise, UMNO too needed an effective supreme council, not a dis-united party and the 14-member BN too must be strong and united.
For a strong government, members of the Cabinet must agree with one another not only on national issues but issues affecting the sensitivities of the various races. They must be in agreement with each other if the party (BN) is to be strong. No single party must be supreme over the other parties.
Do we have a united and strong government? The clock is ticking away and in a year or two, the voters can answer that question, wisely... hopefully.
